Although the Notre Dame of Fairfield girls lacrosse team falls short on the scoreboard, it's not because of a lack of heart. In two losses to Weston High (4-9) this week, 11-6 on the road Monday, and 12-6 at home Tuesday, Notre Dame showed many positive signs in defeat while dropping to 2-11.

"We played hard," said Lancers coach Amy Tufano. "We're more of a second half team but that's not enough. We're young and we're still growing."

In Monday's game, Weston took an 8-0 halftime lead. Notre Dame turned in a stellar performance in the second half, outscoring the Trojans, 6-3.

"The girls woke up in the second half and started to play," said Lancers senior tri-captain Katelyn Crowley.

Crowley led the offensive attack with two goals. Junior Lorenda Alward and sophomores Jessica Ormrod, Katie Terry and Stacie Sopko scored for Notre Dame. Alward and junior Emily Cryan each had an assist.

Lady Lancer senior tri-captain Jenna Camputaro won a draw, which led to Terry's goal. Cryan made a nice defensive play.

In Tuesday's game, Crowley had three goals and an assist.

"I just got frustrated and I take out my frustrations on the goal," said Crowley.

saves. Sophomores Lauren Cosgrove, Ruthie Alicea and Eleni Stefanatos played well defensively in both games.

Despite their 2-11 record, the Lancers see better days for them looming on the horizon. They plan on ironing out the kinks in their quest to improve.

"We're definitely going to work on defense and scoring opportunities," said Tufano. "We lose only four seniors and the young girls take charge when they need to."

Crowley said, "As a senior, I want the girls to have fun and love the game like I do. I think the program will do great. Last year, we won no games and this year, we won two so far. Maybe next year, we'll have four or more wins."
